“Make professional business management accessible to every serious business in Africa — starting with Malawi.”
— Opal Systems
Our Story
Founder Foster Kalema spent years watching small and medium businesses in Malawi struggle with manual spreadsheets, mismatched stock records, and VAT compliance headaches. The tools that existed were either too expensive, too complex, or built for a completely different context.
Opal Systems was incorporated in Malawi with a single goal: build a business management platform that actually works for African businesses — affordable, fast, and designed around local tax and currency requirements.
After months of development and close collaboration with early customers, OBiMS entered private beta. The multi-tenant architecture, FIFO inventory engine, and integrated VAT reporting were built from scratch to handle the realities of trading in Malawi.
OBiMS launched publicly in March 2026. Businesses across Malawi now use OBiMS to manage sales, inventory, purchasing, and VAT compliance — all in one place.
What We Stand For
Every decision — from MWK price rounding to MRA-aligned VAT reports — is made with Malawian businesses in mind, not adapted from a Western template.
We resist feature bloat. OBiMS does what your business needs and nothing more. A cashier should be able to learn the system in under an hour.
FIFO costing, audit logs, and immutable transaction records mean the numbers in OBiMS always reflect reality. We never allow data to be silently edited.
Enterprise-grade tools should not require an enterprise budget. Our pricing is set to be within reach for serious businesses at every stage of growth.
